Petra's story ...
At the age of 16 Petra delved headfirst into the travel industry with a job with a leading German tour operator. During her 40 years in a management position with the same company, she created new tour programmes and successfully launched new destinations as well as being involved with operational issues, extensive budgets, destination marketing and brochure production.
She somehow also found the time to travel extensively; and subsequently became an expert in the Asia, Africa, Middle East and South Pacific regions. No wonder one of her many assets is cross-cultural competence!
But it was not without its challenges – in 1980 Petra was sent to China right after the Cultural Revolution. She returned to Germany, not only with culture shock, but with an incredible China programme that paved the way for travel to the country.
When not travelling ...
In the beautiful forest, just steps from her home, Petra hikes and bikes distances other people drive.
Funniest travel memory ...
Being overtaken by sherpas in just flip flops and laden down with huge bags while hiking with her husband across the border from Tibet to Nepal.
Petra’s Travel Tip
“Want to see Orangutans? Then plan a visit to either Sabah or Sarawak on Borneo Island. These two Malaysian provinces are well known for their lush and tropical nature. For even more adventures – climb Mount Kinabalu in Sabah.“
