Bangkok Old Town – Kudi Chin

Half day – morning

Located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, Kudi Chin is a unique Portuguese-Thai community with a wealth of culture, history and traditions. By public transport and on foot, we explore the tangled alleys of this historic community where Christians, Buddhists and Muslims have been co-existing together peacefully for more than 200 years. We sample a local Portuguese-inspired lunch and explore the exquisite riverside Wat Arun.

Escape the city on a long-tail boat trip along Klong Bangkok Noi, a historic canal that runs through the old part of Bangkok passing rickety wooden houses on stilts and quaint waterside temples. Visit the Artist’s House and the vibrant Ban Bu Community where skilled artisans use traditional techniques to forge bronze into bowls and other items. Sample local snacks at a riverside market and marvel at Buddhist icons in a beautiful temple.

Bangkok – A Culinary Journey: Neighborhood Street Food Tour

Half day – morning

Whizz through the city on the sleek skytrain to reach Thonburi, a riverside community often overlooked by tourists. This historic and cultural quarter is home to the Talad Plu community, known among locals as one of the best street-food hot spots in the city. We join the locals at these roadside food stalls to feast on delicious dishes such as succulent roasted pork, crispy fried noodles and more!

Pedal off the beaten track for an insight into the other side of Bangkok. We cycle to a kindergarden in one of the city’s poorest areas and then cross the river by boat to explore the ‘Green Lung’, an oasis of mangroves crisscrossed by elevated pathways. A traditional ricksahw ride brings us to a local market to sample Thai snacks. After lunch we visit an old Buddhist temple and an open-air Muay Thai school to see this ancient martial art.

Bangkok – Canals, Markets and Exotic Fruits

Morning

The day starts with visits to infamous markets – the colourful bustling floating market and the quirky Maeklong Market located right on the tracks of a busy railway. As the train arrives, the vendors quickly pack away their stalls and then replace them once the train has passed through. After lunch, we explore the orchards and homes of the traditional farming community of Baan Bang Phlap Village by eco-friendly bicycles.

The day starts at dawn with the traditional ritual of offering alms to Buddhist monks. A cruise along the picturesque Mae Ping River takes us past traditional wooden houses and scenes of riverside life to a local farm with gardens full of herbs, vegetables and fruit. At Waroros Market we can wander through stalls piled high with fresh flowers, food and snacks. Finally, a fun foot-pedalled trishaw ride brings us to Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Center.

Chiang Mai – Chatting with Monks

Late afternoon

This enlightening experience takes place at Wat Suan Dok, built by the sixth Lanna king in the 14th century. After exploring the beautiful temple interior, we have time to sit and chat with the monks. During this open forum, we get to learn about life as a monk and gain a deeper insight into the Thai Buddhist religion and culture. This is an incredible opportunity that is unique to this particular temple.

Phuket – Old Town & Food Tasting

Delve into the rich and fascinating history of Phuket Old Town and gain an insight into a local community encompassing three generations of Thai-Chinese that is striving to keep their cultural heritage alive. There are many unseen wonders to explore as we walk through the quaint streets with our guide, who will take us to traditional tea shops, temples and museums – tasting local snacks along the way!

Tung Yee Peng Village - Koh Lanta

Tung Yee Peng village is an eco-tourism community of fishermen and farmers who live a unique way of life that is deeply connected to the mangrove forest. An exploration by foot and traditional boat gives us the chance to spot various birds, monitor lizards and monkeys. A fishing expedition is followed by a net-to-table meal with a host family where we share stories, learn to cook delicious southern Thai food and find out how the villagers are protecting the precious ecosystem.
